Watch repair tools on a workbench

Our Advantages

What You Get When You Come to Us

Not every workshop approaches watch repair the same way. Here is what shapes how we work, and why clients choose to return.

Six Reasons to Choose Lanna Horology

Specialist Expertise

Work handled by a watchmaker who focuses on mechanical and automatic movements — not a generalist doing repairs as a sideline.

Transparent Quoting

Service prices are given before work starts. Any additional findings are communicated to you before action is taken — always.

Documented Condition

Each watch is photographed and logged on arrival. The condition record protects you and gives future watchmakers useful history.

Timing Machine Verification

Rate is measured before and after any movement work so you can see the actual improvement in figures, not just our word for it.

Clear Communication

We keep you informed at each stage. If something changes, you hear about it before we proceed, not when you come to collect.

Care for Sentimental Pieces

Heirloom watches are treated with particular attentiveness. We understand that some pieces carry significance that has nothing to do with their value on a market.

Expertise

A Watchmaker Who Specialises

There is a significant difference between a watchmaker who works exclusively with mechanical calibres and a general repair shop that services watches among other electronics. The tools, the techniques, the judgment required to regulate a movement — all of it deepens with focus over time.

At Lanna Horology, mechanical and automatic watches are the only work we take on. That concentration means we are more likely to recognise an unusual calibre, identify an obscure fault, or know when a piece is better left alone.

  • Mechanical and automatic movements only
  • Experience across Swiss, Japanese, and vintage calibres
  • Movement identification before quoting
  • Honest referral if a piece is outside our scope

Tools & Process

Equipment That Earns Its Place

We use a timing machine to measure rate accuracy before and after movement work, a pressure testing unit for water resistance verification, and proper ultrasonic cleaning equipment for movement parts. These are not unusual tools — but they are often absent in casual repair shops.

Good tools, properly maintained, produce consistent results. We do not improvise where precision is needed.

  • Timing machine measurement before and after
  • Pressure test with every seal service
  • Ultrasonic movement cleaning
  • Calibrated instruments, checked regularly

Client Experience

A Calm, Unhurried Service

Bringing in a watch — especially a valued one — should not feel like a transaction. We take a few minutes at drop-off to discuss what you have noticed, what the watch means to you, and what you are hoping for from the service.

That conversation shapes how we approach the work, and we think it produces better outcomes than simply receiving a watch and returning it a few days later.

  • Drop-off discussion included in service
  • Progress updates for longer work
  • Walk-through of findings at collection
  • Questions welcomed at any stage

Value

Pricing That Reflects the Work

Our service prices are set based on the actual time, parts, and skill involved. They are not padded, and they do not fluctuate based on the brand of watch you bring in. A movement clean costs what it costs because of what the work requires — not because of the name on the dial.

We publish our prices openly. There are no hidden additions at collection unless they were discussed and agreed with you first.

  • Published prices, openly stated
  • Quoted before work begins
  • No brand-based surcharges
  • Additional costs agreed before incurred

Comparison

How We Differ from Typical Repair Shops

We are not suggesting other workshops are careless. But the way we structure our work differs in ways that matter to clients who value their watches.

Aspect Typical Repair Shop Lanna Horology
Pre-work condition record Rarely documented Photo and written log on arrival
Timing machine use Not always available Measured before and after servicing
Quoting process Often given after partial disassembly Quoted after inspection, before any work
Water resistance testing Not standard Pressure test with every opened case
Written service record Uncommon Provided with all full services
Heirloom specialisation Treated like any other repair Dedicated Heirloom Care Package
Communication during repair Contact only at pick-up Updates if scope or findings change

What Sets Us Apart

Three Things We Do That Others Often Don't

The Heirloom Record

For family pieces, we produce a written record of what was found, what was done, and what before photographs show. This travels with the watch — useful to whoever services it next, and meaningful to the family.

Rate Verification in Numbers

We show clients the timing machine readings — before and after. If the movement is running 40 seconds fast per day on arrival and 3 seconds after servicing, you see that in figures, not just our assurance.

No-Obligation Assessment

Bringing in a watch does not commit you to anything. We assess it, explain what we find, and give you a clear quote. If you decide not to proceed, there is no charge and no pressure.
